Cinema

Rooms built for silence and spectacle.

Reference-grade private cinemas built on Barco, Trinnov and Ascendo: acoustic engineering, calibrated projection and interiors made to your taste — by a team with 20 years in the science of sound.

The discipline

A cinema is an instrument. We build it in tune.

Acoustic design

Room geometry, isolation and treatment calculated before a single panel is fitted. Our studio-grade background means the room itself is engineered, not just furnished.

Calibrated picture & sound

Barco Residential projection, Trinnov Altitude processing and Ascendo immersive audio at reference level — with Bang & Olufsen, Bowers & Wilkins, Stewart Filmscreen, M&K Sound and Lyngdorf completing the chain — and C SEED outdoor and luxury displays where the screen itself is a statement. Every system is calibrated to studio standards.

Bespoke interiors

Seating, fabrics and lighting designed with your interior designer. One button dims the lights, lowers the screen and starts the film.

Beyond the cinema

Media rooms, golf simulators and listening rooms.

Not every home wants a dedicated theatre. We build dual-purpose media lounges, simulator rooms and two-channel listening rooms with the same engineering rigour — including Steinway & Sons systems for those who want the very best.

The collections

Four levels of cinematic craftsmanship.

Our cinema environments are offered across four curated collections, each defined by material selection, acoustic treatment and overall finish. Every collection is fully customisable to suit the room, aesthetic and performance requirements.

Silver

Collection

A refined entry into bespoke cinema design, combining selective acoustic treatment with carefully chosen finishes for balanced performance and understated elegance.

Gold

Collection

Fully immersive cinematic environments with complete wall treatments for total acoustic and visual control.

Platinum

Collection

Uncompromised architectural cinema — architectural finishes executed with ultimate precision throughout the room.

Signature

Collection

A fully bespoke entertainment environment shaped entirely by the client's vision — gaming, themed experiences or hybrid cinema spaces with complete creative freedom over materials, lighting, layout, technology and atmosphere.

The process

From architectural drawing to first screening.

The best cinemas are engineered long before the first speaker is hung. We work from your architect's drawings to model room geometry, isolation and sightlines, then prewire during construction so cabling, speaker positions and the equipment rack are designed in rather than retrofitted.

Acoustic treatment is calculated for the specific room — never a kit of parts — and every system is calibrated to reference standards once installed. We have delivered private cinemas and media rooms across Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town, and on landmark projects further afield, including the off-grid Noka Camp in the Lapalala Wilderness and private residences in East Africa. Each room is documented and supported under SLA after handover.

Questions

Private cinema, answered.

How much does a private home cinema cost in South Africa?

Cost depends on the room, the level of acoustic treatment and the equipment chosen. We offer cinemas across four collections — from a refined Silver build with selective treatment to a fully bespoke Signature room — so the investment scales with the space and finish. The most meaningful figure comes after a site assessment, when we provide a transparent, itemised proposal rather than a headline number.

What is the difference between a dedicated cinema and a media room?

A dedicated cinema is a purpose-built, acoustically isolated room designed around a single screen and seating layout for the best possible picture and sound. A media room is a dual-purpose living space — it still gets proper audio, video distribution and one-touch control, but balances performance with everyday use. We build both, and often a media lounge or two-channel listening room alongside a main theatre.

Can you convert an existing room, or do I need a purpose-built space?

Both work. A new build lets us engineer isolation, sightlines and cabling from the slab up, which gives the best result. But we regularly convert existing rooms — a spare lounge, basement or loft — using acoustic treatment, screen masking and calibration to get reference performance from the space you have.

How long does a home cinema take to design and install?

It varies with scope and whether it is a new build or a retrofit. Once the design and equipment are signed off, a dedicated room is typically delivered in phases — first-fix wiring during construction, then installation, calibration and handover. We give you a realistic programme tied to your build schedule at proposal stage.

Do you install home cinemas outside Johannesburg and Cape Town?

Yes. Our studios are in Johannesburg (Kyalami) and Cape Town (Century City), and we deliver projects across South Africa and into the rest of sub-Saharan Africa — including private residences in East Africa and the Noka Camp lodge in the Lapalala Wilderness.

When should we bring you into a building project?

As early as possible — ideally at drawing stage. Involving us before walls close lets us prewire, plan equipment locations and design the technology into the architecture so it disappears. Coming in early almost always saves cost and produces a cleaner result than retrofitting later.
